What do Malaysians like to do in their free time? Yes, visit malls and go to the cinemas! There’s nothing we’d love more than to just chill in the air-conditioned halls while snacking on some popcorn and soft drinks. Unfortunately, we are in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak and the Health Ministry has issued a statement saying that the public should avoid any mass gatherings and public places.

As we know, the pandemic has also reached the United States of America with 1,663 reported cases and 40 reported deaths so far. Besides putting a damper on most businesses, the pandemic has affected the biggest business which is the movie theatres! Due to extreme worries regarding public safety, these are highly anticipated movies that have delayed their releases around the world.

1. Mulan

The live-action reboot of the 1998 animated film was scheduled for a March 27th release but currently has been postponed with no new release date set.

2. F9

The ninth instalment of the classic franchise was supposed to have a May release date but it has been pushed to April 2, 2021.

“To our family of Fast fans everywhere, we feel all the love and the anticipation you have for the next chapter in our saga. That’s why it’s especially tough to let you know that we have to move the release date of the film. It’s become clear that it won’t be possible for all of our fans around the world to see the film this May.”

3. A Quiet Place 2

The sequel to the 2018 critical and commercial success starring John Krasinski (who also directed the film) and Emily Blunt was scheduled for a March 2020 release but John Krasinski confirmed in his Instagram today that he has always been proud of the fact that his movie is something everyone should watch together. To respect that, he’s gonna wait to release the movie until the Covid-19 situation gets better.

4. No Time To Die

Well, it’s true that we have No Time To Die! The latest James Bond movie in the franchise was originally supposed to be released in April but now has a release date Nov. 25, 2020. Well, hopefully, this movie has a smooth release and well, you know, Tomorrow Never Dies!

5. The New Mutants

The latest instalment in the X-Men series starring Game of Thrones alum Maisie Williams and Stranger Things alum Charlie Heaton originally had a 3rd April release. However, after many delays, the current release date is still unknown.

This is a HUGE bummer but in terms of the greater good, this was a wise move by the movie producers. After all, we don’t want to take a risk right?
