What is Gamescom Asia 2021?

ICYMI, Gamescom Asia 2021 is the first conference event of the world’s largest computer and video games platform. The event has been much anticipated by local gamers as it will bring the latest news, trailers and footage of what’s going on and coming out of the video games industry.

To showcase the possibilities of gaming on TikTok, TikTok will be hosting an official session, titled “The TikTok Show“, from 5pm to 6pm on Sunday, 17 October 2021.

So, which local Malaysian content creators will be featured?

1. Sharina Richie

One Malaysian gaming content creator to look out for on TikTok is Sharina Richie who is also a live streamer and has even founded her own eSports team!

The 26-year-old has been actively involved in the gaming scene for the past three years and has amassed over 330,000 followers on TikTok where she mainly shares PUBG gameplay content and tips. Her eSports team, Richie Esport, plays PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), Mobile Legends (ML) and DOTA 2 professionally.

“I got into gaming after noticing the amount of time my personal assistant at the time had dedicated to games during his free time. That’s how I got exposed to the scene and it was an eye opener trying to figure out and understand why people enjoy gaming.”

She had then bought a PC and initially started playing games on Steam and horror games before moving on to PUBG on the PC and eventually starting to play competitively on PUBG mobile.

“I play games every day for about three to four hours at the minimum. I enjoy playing PUBG Mobile, ML and Grand Theft Auto,” she added.

Regarding her journey to using TikTok to share her gaming related content, Sharina said that she started using the platform in early 2021. She had then taken a short break when she had amassed around 19,000 followers before continuing to produce content when the lockdown commenced yet again in June.

“I started focusing more on TikTok content and saw an explosive growth and I decided on TikTok for the incredible amount of support and growth rate.”

She is looking to share her experiences on content creation and her TikTok journey during “The TikTok Show” at Gamescom Asia 2021.

2. Faroukjer

Another gaming content creator to look out for on TikTok is Mohd Farouk Rujhan Bin Mohamed Nor better known as “faroukjer“. Farouk is a full-time video editor and part-time gamer who is aspiring to be a full-time streamer and stay-at-home father. He has amassed over 154,000 followers on TikTok.

The 24-year-old started gaming in 2014, when his older brother introduced him to CounterStrike 1.6. “We used to play together, with him bullying me in-game of course because I kept saying that I could beat him. I became competitive and started playing seriously.”

He also self-taught himself how to edit videos around the same time by watching tutorials on YouTube. This then led to him getting a job as a video editor at an internet cafe in 2018.

Because of the pandemic, the internet cafe had to close down to comply with SOPs, and with nothing much to do, he started consistently posting content on TikTok.

“I began to start posting seriously on TikTok when the pandemic first came about which was around February 2020,” he said.

“I’ve tried other platforms before but they mostly didn’t work out very well. It seems like it’s easier to target audiences on TikTok and since my account had already amassed plenty of attention after posting everyday for two weeks, I just decided to go with the flow and continue with the platform.”

His favourite games to play right now are Valorant, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Minecraft and Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) which he plays every day for at least three hours.

He is planning to share his experiences in gaming, video editing and give recommendations on gaming products during “The TikTok Show” on 17 October.

The TikTok Show will focus on how these gaming content creators find new audiences on the platform and how the consumption of gaming content has changed due to the rise of short-form videos.

The pandemic has pushed more people to find new ways to entertain themselves, and the short-form mobile-focused video format of TikTok has proven to give Malaysians much joy during these stay-at-home times.

This coupled with TikTok’s status as a platform that champions creative expression in a variety of forms has allowed gaming content creators to flourish and grow their influence exponentially.

As anyone can now enjoy or create gaming content with only a smartphone in their hand, the unparalleled audience that TikTok offers as one of the world’s largest platforms allows gamers and content creators to connect in new and creative ways.

So guys, if you’d like to know more about these two Malaysian gaming content creators and their experience in the gaming world, make sure to catch them at Gamescom Asia 2021, live between 5pm to 6pm, Sunday, 17 October 2021 at @gamescomasia.
