According to Public Health Malaysia (PHM), we are losing more doctors as we speak.

Despite the government’s financial efforts, many medical graduates have chosen to work in Singapore, where they can allegedly earn up to RM17,000 a month, three times more than what they make here.

With their decision to travel to Singapore to make a living, Public Health Malaysia highlighted a concern.

“This is not just about their career anymore. It’s about the future of our healthcare system.”

“When young doctors choose to work abroad, we don’t only lose the manpower of the experts, but also suffer losses in millions of ringgit in terms of education subsidies.”

The government’s losses cost at least RM15 million per year, sometimes up to RM25 million. In 10 years, the figure will be RM250 million.

In Singapore, it’s not just about the higher pay. PHM also mentioned the lesser workload and a clearer direction for the medical practitioners there in terms of their careers.

We hear you, but how are we going to help without you here?

In its post, PHM also assured that it has always heard and considered the flaws in the Malaysian healthcare system—the lack of manpower, crowded hospitals, and long waiting times.

While PHM does want to rectify the issue, it can hardly do so when the doctors themselves are packing their bags and leaving for other places.

“How do we solve the issue when our best doctors are leaving the country? We train them but eventually, they’re not here.”

PHM reminds everyone that this is not an issue that we can ignore, and calls for a change before there’s no turning back.

“We need to appreciate the young doctors. We can’t afford to lose the manpower that should’ve been the backbone of our healthcare system.”

If you’re in the medical field, what do you think of this?
