A couple was recently caught for Khalwat inside a hotel room in Johor, just one month before they were scheduled to tie the knot.

The Johor Religious Department (JAINJ) has been actively conducting raids in hotel premises, homestays, and rented houses to look out for unmarried Muslim couples. This time, JAINJ officers caught an engaged couple in a hotel room in Kluang at around 1:30 AM yesterday (30 November).

The man hid under the table to evade the officers

According to the JAINJ spokesperson, the officers knocked on the door for five minutes before the woman opened it, and claimed that she was alone. Regardless, the officers went into the hotel room, turned on the lights, and found the man.

He was hiding under the table at the corner.

According to the couple, who are both in their 20s, the hotel room was checked in under the woman’s name, who travelled from a different state to see her partner. The man himself is from Kluang, and the couple had just left the man’s house, as the woman was in Kluang to meet her future mother-in-law to discuss some affairs about the wedding, which is expected to take place by the end of the year.

After sending the woman back to her hotel room, the man used the toilet facility and decided to stay the night.

JAINJ officers described the bed as “a mess after the storm”.

“Their relationship is not ‘halal’ yet, but they decided to ‘test drive’ each other.”

“This would be the last time they see each other before their wedding, and due to the long distance relationship, they decided to stay together in the hotel room, when the wedding is merely a month away,” JAINJ spokesperson said in a Facebook post.

Their wedding is also expected to take place in Kluang.
