A group of Vietnamese nationals were shot dead at Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur, at 11:30pm last night (November 12) during a shootout with Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) officers.

This comes after the group of four was suspected to be involved in 44 safe-breaking thefts across the Klang Valley since 2018.

According to a report by Berita Harian, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa shared that the suspects, all in their 40s, had attempted to open fire at police officers who raided a residential unit on the 17th floor of a luxury residence.

“During the process of trying to make arrests, the suspects suddenly opened fire, leading to a shootout and in self-defence, the police were able to shoot them all dead,”

“The results of the investigation found that the suspects were armed with 2 machetes and 2 pistols, which were used to attack the police,” he said.

The suspects amassed RM4.3 million by breaking into houses & offices

The investigation also found that the suspects, who are believed to have frequently left and entered Malaysia, had made RM4.3 million from breaking into houses and offices to conduct burglaries before drilling into safes in the premises they targeted.

The suspects would allegedly target unoccupied offices and residences after conducting surveillance.

“The last time the suspects were reported to have committed a crime was 2 days ago in Sri Hartamas, before returning to hide at tonight’s raided location. We also believe that they used the luxury residential units here as a place to plan crimes, rest and hide,”

“From the investigation, the suspects, who hold passports, were infamous (dangerous) and difficult to arrest because of their cunningness. They committed crimes at night, left no trace and when their faces were recorded on CCTV footage, it was quite difficult to identify them because they are foreigners,” he added.

Efforts are currently underway to track down the remaining members of the group.
