We’ve heard of robbers using various tools to steal from automated teller machines (ATMs) in banks. The most common method we hear of is that the thieves use some kind of tool to cut through the machine to get the cash. This incident sounds like it might have come right out of a Hollywood movie.
A group of thieves used explosive devices to bust open three ATMs at a bank in Jalan Haji Mustaffa Raja Kamala, Muallim, Perak, on 12th August (Monday), New Straits Times.
It is believed that the thieves robbed the ATMs and escaped with RM300,000 in cold hard cash.
The explosion was so big that the glass doors of the bank were smashed to smithereens. One of the robbers may have been hurt in the explosion because there were traces of blood on the floor of the bank.
According to Harian Metro, the police also found some kind of chemical fluid in the parking area which was believed to have been used to explode the ATMs. There were also patches of blood on the shattered glass door.
Law enforcement and forensic officials were at the crime scene with the chief police of Muallim district, Superintendent Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof, for the investigation.
Furthermore, a resident around the area said that he was startled awake by the sound of a loud explosion at about 6.30am.
The witness said that after he woke up, he went to check out what happened and he was shocked to see that the bank’s glass door was in pieces. He also saw a few people moving around in front of the building.
He added that he saw the suspects gathering the money from the destroyed ATMs before escaping in a red vehicle. Police arrived at the crime scene after that.
Hopefully, the police would be able to apprehend the criminals soon and bring them to justice.
