KLIA Terminal 2 (KLIA2) was struck with a power outage yesterday evening (August 28), and coincidentally, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook was present during the blackout.
And he was NOT happy about the incident, which he dubbed “shouldn’t have happened” and “unacceptable.”
According to him, a power outage that lasts more than 15 minutes is considered a major one. Following the incident, Anthony told the airport to produce a complete report about the matter, and he expected to receive it within 24 hours, reported BERNAMA.
Loke wanted the airport to assure the public that history would not repeat itself.
During the blackout, Loke was at KLIA2 for an event that was organised by gateway @klia2.
“This is unacceptable because it affects the country’s image. The backup system should be working, but why was it not activated? There must be answers!”
On the same night, the Malaysian Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) responded to the matter via an official statement, citing cable termination over the power disruption.
MAHB, however, assured the public that the airport operations were not affected. The essential power systems, including backup generators, were activated immediately, ensuring an uninterrupted functionality of critical systems such as baggage handling, check-in counters, and flight information displays.
According to MAHB, the issue was resolved in less than 30 minutes.
Our technical teams responded swiftly and professionally, rerouting power from an alternate substation and successfully restoring full power supply within 28 minutes. All essential services remained operational throughout. A full report of the incident is currently being prepared for submission to the Transport Minister.
MAHB also thanked all passengers for their understanding and patience.
