This is great news for all public transport users!
As a bus user myself, it was very infuriating when the Rapid KL bus mobile application refused to work starting from November 2018. After almost two years, bus users can track the buses real-time again but this time, with the use of an application that’s on all android phones, Google Maps.
In a media release, Rapid KL says that this real-time function will be available for almost all 170 RapidKL Klang Valley bus routes including GO KL, feeder buses between LRT stations and a selected few Smart Selangor buses.
This is how you can track the bus:
Select your destination and where you will be travelling from. The green symbol means that real-time tracking is available. Tap on recommended route.
And you will be brought here.
The time in green will show you the exact time the bus will arrive at your location. If you have missed it, just tap the section and you will be shown the other buses that you can take.
Green text means that the bus is being tracked real-time and the black text means that it is from Rapid KL’s generic schedule. Red text means that the bus has been delayed. If you tap into one of the routes, you can even see the movement of the bus. Here, notice the bus icon on the left side.
Prior to this, users can only know the real-time location of the buses by calling or messaging Rapid KL’s customer service. Rapid KL revealed that they received 4,865 queries on the location of buses from January till April 2020.
Prasarana chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said,
“With the Google Maps data, customers no longer have to refer to the call centre, but can find out for themselves the real-time location of our Rapid bus before planning their trip.”
This feature will certainly improve our public transport experience and we probably won’t miss the bus and enter the office late anymore! What do you think of this? Let us know in the comments!
