The FIFA World Cup 2018 is now in full swing and Malaysians are flooding every mamak corner to catch their favourite team whilst enjoying their plate of roti canai or mee goreng. But if you especially love putu mayam, you have to check out Manogaran Putu Mayam this football season!
That’s because this place is where you can enjoy a variety of hot freshly-steamed putu mayam while watching football matches live on the big screen. What a great combo!
According to Malay Mail, there are 24 types of putu mayam that you can choose from and some of these include milk putu, chocolate putu, Pepsi putu, Coca-Cola putu, cheese putu, ragi putu, sugee putu, Bob Marley putu, plain putu, Bandung putu, pandan putu and many more.
I wonder what Bob Marley putu tastes like. Hmm…
M. Thirumaran, 29, is the owner of the restaurant and he got the idea of serving putu mayam to his customers who are football fans because he wanted to give them something unique.
“I started to promote via Facebook and the first day I started, all the putu mayam were sold out,” he said.
Must’ve tasted super delicious!
He added that his shop has about 18 tables, but it wasn’t enough for all the customers who came for his putu mayam on the first day.
“The next day, the crowd was even bigger and I didn’t have enough chairs and tables to accommodate them.”
Thirumaran said that during the first three days of the World Cup, there were many customers who came to his shop to watch the midnight football matches, but were disappointed as his putu mayam were sold out. He then proceeded to make extra in the following days.
On top of all his unique putu mayams, he also offers another unique dish called fried idiyappam served with chicken and a special spicy sauce.
“Normally, people won’t fry idiyappam. I gave it a try and the response from the customers was amazing. Currently, this dish is popular among my customers,” he said.
He added that he will soon set out more tables in his shop and hire more workers as he expects the crowd to grow bigger as the football matches start to intensify.
This is already making my stomach grumble!
