The Mid-Autumn Festival has officially ended two days ago (24 September) but if you have some remaining mooncake yet to be finished, you don’t have to worry about it going bad, because this woman’s mooncake is still going strong even after 15 years!
According to Guang Ming, a 60-year-old secretary named Leong from Bahau, Negeri Sembilan bought the mooncake on 15 October 2003 from a famous bakery in Seremban. The red bean filling was sweet and smooth while the skin was baked to perfection, she recalled.
So, she ended up buying a few of them and kept one unopened as a memento.
“I’ve been keeping this mooncake for 15 years. During the Mid-Autumn Festival every year, I would bring it out to appreciate its beauty with my friends but not eat it. This year is extra special because our government has changed,” she said.
It was understood that the mooncake is still in its pristine condition where the colour is still as vibrant as it was 15 years ago. What about the inside tho?
As expected, this news garnered a lot of attention on social media as netizens couldn’t believe what they saw.
“I know that mooncakes can stay fresh for a long time without going bad because of its high sugar and salt content, but I didn’t expect it to last for 15 years!” a netizen said.
“I totally believe this mooncake is from 2003 because the price says it all,” another netizen said.
The mooncake was priced at RM5.25, which is impossible to find today. How we miss that time…
This is certainly a special mooncake. Can this mooncake last until GE15? Let us know in the comments!
