Looking for a tasty treat while doing a good deed?

Well, this Malaysian pastry chef is selling delicious French butter orange loaves in an effort to earn a livelihood for her family as her husband’s health condition has caused him to lose his income.

Jaymee Chan, the owner of Luvatte Patisserie, took to her Facebook page to showcase their monthly and yearly French butter orange loaf subscriptions following her husband’s heart condition, which has forced him to be unable to work.

“(My husband’s) health condition no longer allows him to do his usual work, leaving us without our main source of income. I hesitate to borrow money, as (I am) unsure if we can ever repay it, and I’m reluctant to seek charity as I am still able to make use of my skills and physical strength,”

“Right now, I’m focused on finding ways to sustain our livelihood. The only solution I can see if through subscription orders, which could greatly support us by giving us a sustainable income flow to continue our livelihoods,” she shared.

Her struggles started just before MCO, when her husband had his first heart attack.

Following that, the lockdowns also challenged her and her family financially, forcing them to make significant adjustments to survive. And then, 3 years ago, her daughter was diagnosed with Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

But, things became worse recently, when her husband suddenly started feeling breathless.

“Last Saturday morning (April 20), while planning to move equipment for non-Halal Bak Chang production, my husband suddenly felt breathless. (He was) rushed to the emergency (ward) at University Hospital (UH), while I continued with the move before checking on him later,”

“His blood pressure was dangerously high, accompanied by irregular heartbeat and difficulty in breathing. He was diagnosed with heart failure, resulting in fluid in his lungs. Further tests and treatments were needed if he required another round of angio, but we couldn’t afford them in UH, so we requested a referral to Hospital Serdang,” Jaymee shared.

He has since been discharged from Serdang Hospital though will have to wait 2 months for a heart scan before finding out if there is any blockages which will require further treatment.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t get free medication due to quota limitations, but we hope to receive it after his scan appointment.”

To make ends meet, she’s baking up a storm!

With all of that being said, she has now started a subscription arrangement for customers to purchase and enjoy her French butter orange loaves on a monthly or yearly basis.

The income from the subscriptions will help her keep her family afloat during this difficult time.

“For just RM30 per month, you’ll receive one freshly baked loaf. Or, opt for our yearly subscription at RM360 and enjoy 12 loaves plus an extra complimentary one!”

“Self-collect from our SS2 kitchen or request for delivery (charges apply). Its great as a gift for your loved ones, family, colleagues and more,” she explained.

Should you like to make an order, you can do so here. (Please do provide them with at least 1 week notice for orders, as they have limited manpower and equipment.)

“Your patience and support mean the world to us as we strive to accommodate your collection. Thank you for being a part of our journey!”

We genuinely hope to see our fellow Malaysians rallying together by subscribing to Jaymee’s yummy French butter orange loaves!

After all, what’s better than having a sweet treat while helping a fellow community member in need.
