Just a few weeks ago, a toilet in Terengganu was voted the cleanest public toilet in the whole of South East Asia. Now, this primary school has gone viral after upgrading their toilets with a new identity card scanner.
According to Malay Mail, students of SK Tanah Hitam are now required to scan their identity cards before entering and leaving the toilets.
The system known as “Touch N Toilet” was introduced last year at the primary school in Chemor, Perak. This system uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and can now determine the frequency and duration of each student’s toilet trip.
The scanner isn’t the only technological upgrade in the toilet!
The toilets are also equipped with CCTV cameras to monitor the premises of the toilet. SK Tanah Hitam’s principal, Halimatus Sadiah Mohd Sharif said,
“This initiative by the school will indirectly prevent students from loitering in the toilet for too long. It will also overcome the problem of vandalism or bullying in an enclosed space such as the toilet.”
In a video interview, the principal also pointed out that they use a “Water Saver” feature in their toilets. Their new faucets that are attached with infra-red scanners have successfully reduced the water usage by 70%.
They even have a monitor showing the primary school students how to wash their hands properly!
Since then, the toilet was awarded the title of Cleanest Primary School Toilet, according to Utusan. The award was given in conjunction with the 2019 World Toilet Day Celebration held at Stadium Indera Mulia, Perak.
That is so cool! We’re glad that Malaysia is putting more effort into maintaining the cleanliness of our toilets. Tell us what else you think should be implemented in our toilets!
