Many Malaysians have begun to rely on the recently opened Mass Rapid Transit’s (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line since it made the city way more accessible to commuters, which is why this recent delay came as an unpleasant surprise to them.

According to the New Straits Times, the MRT SBK Line experienced a strange glitch this morning beginning at about 6.30am, which caused significant delays to train operations, causing thousands to be late for work.

One commuter who regularly takes the MRT to Bangsar told the daily that the train he was on kept stopping for five to 10 minutes at each station, causing his usual 30-minute journey to be extended to one-and-a-half hours. Yikes!

“I usually take the train from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn MRT Station to the Pasar Seni (interchange) Station – a journey that will usually take about half an hour,” said the commuter.

“However, due to the long delays today, the train took about one hour and a half to reach the Pasar Seni Station.”

Woah, that’s just insane!

A RapidKL spokesperson told the daily that the MRT line was experiencing a signalling issue at the Pusat Bandar Damansara Station (northbound and southbound), saying,

“Due to the problem, the trains moved more slowly along the entire line.”

RapidKL has since posted an update on the situation on their Facebook page, stating that the MRT’s services will resume to normal shortly. Phew!
