Three Individuals In Sentul Fined RM700 Each For Travelling In One Vehicle At The Same Time

Three individuals were fined RM700 each for travelling in a private vehicle during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) as they had exceeded the maximum limit of individuals allowed in a vehicle at one time, reported Harian Metro.

Magistrate Mohamad Fared Abdul Latif passed the sentence on two Myanmar nationals, Thaung Myint and Md Nay Lin, and one Bangladeshi, Sabbir Bhuiyan, aged between 35 and 39, after they pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court also told the three individuals that they would have to serve 14 days in jail if they failed to pay the fine.

According to the charge, the three individuals were charged for being in a private vehicle with more than two people in an infectious area according to Regulation 10 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2020. They were stopped at the roadblock in front of the One Maxim Building, Jalan Sentul at 9.30am on 20 October.

The charge is filed under Rule 11 (1), the same rule which provides for a maximum fine of RM1,000 or imprisonment for up to six months.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Abdul Khaliq Nazeri applied for an appropriate punishment, however, lawyer P. Suthes, who represented the three individuals applied for a minimum fine, justifying that his three clients had regretted their actions and promised not to repeat the same offence.
