The recent rainy season for the last few days has given us some awesomely cool weather that made us feel like we were in some foreign country. However, for these three people in Mersing, Johor, the downpour apparently caused them to be victims of a deep landslide when they were driving along the roads.
According to The Star, the incident happened at around 2.30am on January 15 when they were travelling along Jalan Jemaluang – Mersing. When their vehicle reached KM16 on the road, the car skidded as they encountered a 15-metre deep landslide, which was due to a collapsed road.
Unable to control the car, they plummeted deep into the ravine, which probably gave the three people the shock of their lives. The situation looks really bad! Luckily, they managed to escape death from the scary incident and it seems that only one of the victims suffered minor injuries.
The man, identified as Swee Ah Peng, 60, has been sent to the Mersing Hospital for treatment but the police have not managed to identify the two other people in the car. Mersing OCPD Deputy Supt Cyril Edward Nuing said, “As soon as police arrived at the scene, the injured victim was already rushed to the hospital while the other two victims had left for Senai International Airport.”
As for the scene of devastation, the police have cordoned off the road as it was not passable. The landslide stretches for 70 metres, which makes it almost impossible for both heavy and light vehicles to cross. Motorists are advised to take another alternative if they are travelling to Johor Bahru or Mersing by using Jalan Nitar – Jemaluang.
Thankfully, those people in the car are alright!
