The Crown Prince of Johor (TMJ), Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has today decreed for an immediate audience with 779 teachers in the state who rejected Covid-19 vaccinations as well as with Johor’s Education Director. As reported by national news agency Bernama, this is following several news reports covering the high number of teachers in Johor who rejected vaccinations despite the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the state.
In a Twitter post earlier today, Tunku Ismail called for the audience because the priority of the state currently is to overcome the pandemic as soon as possible so that Johor and its people can return to some form of normalcy in their lives.
The Crown Prince of Johor stressed,
“I will meet with the Johor Education Director and all the teachers [who rejected Covid-19 vaccination] soon. Our priority is to overcome this pandemic as soon as possible so that the rakyat and Johor can return to living their lives as normal,”
The tweet by Tunku Ismail was in reply to a news report of 779 teachers in Johor who rejected getting vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine. Previously, the Johor education, information, heritage and culture committee chairman Mazlan Bujang told the Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) that as of 19 August 2021, 45,448 or 96.26% teachers in the state have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine while 23,746 teachers have been fully vaccinated.
Efforts are currently underway under the Johor State Government as well as the Johor’s Islamic Religious Department (JPNJ) to educate the teachers who rejected the vaccine of its benefits and so that they will agree to be vaccinated. It is hoped that TMJ’s personal initiative and involvement in the matter would also help to convince these teachers of the necessity to vaccinate against the Covid-19 virus.
