In a heartbreaking accident, Lee Zi Rou tragically lost her life on November 13 when a container fell off a moving trailer and struck her in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
The force of the impact left her with severe injuries, and despite the efforts, the 21-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The company could face a permanent license suspension
Following the tragic accident, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that the trailer company’s operating license would be suspended, as reported by BERNAMA.
He went on to explain that the company could be looking at a permanent suspension of its license if it fails to pass a thorough audit or does not comply with established safety regulations designed to prevent such incidents.
The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) has been told to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
“The incident never should’ve happened”
Loke called the incident a tragic and unfortunate event that should’ve never happened, saying that action has to be taken.
He added that the Transport Ministry is fully committed to a thorough investigation to find out whether the accident was caused by technical problems, a faulty container, or just carelessness in securing it properly.
“The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will be auditing the company, and if they fail or don’t meet safety standards, their license will be suspended.”
