Prime minister, Dr Mahathir taking Malaysia from Najib’s hands has become one of the greatest moments in Malaysian history that we all get the privilege of experiencing first-hand.
With a new government formed just hours ago, news about Malaysia has reached far and wide, and it has become the most talked about event not just in Malaysia but all around the world too!
Even US President Donald J. Trump has congratulated Dr Mahathir in a statement by the White House posted on the US embassy Kuala Lumpur Facebook page today (May 11) at 10am, according to The Star.
“President Donald Trump congratulates Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on having been sworn in today (May 10) as the new Prime Minister of Malaysia.”
The statement also said that Trump congratulated all Malaysians in their participation in a competitive and peaceful election.
It added that the United States looks forward to continue working closely with Malaysia to further strengthen the US-Malaysia Comprehensive Partnership, and to address common international and regional challenges.
“The United States-Malaysia relationship is rooted in longstanding and strong people-to-people ties, shared democratic values, and commercial relations.”
In a photo shared on the same Facebook page, the US has complimented Malaysia for proving that it has respect for the democratic process and the rule of law. It also added that people from all walks of life are able to engage in a peaceful electoral process and leadership transition.
In another statement released by the State Department Spokesperson, Heather Nauert, she also congratulated Malaysia for their participation in a hard-fought election while maintaining peace and enthusiasm.
Free Malaysia Today reported that this relationship between the two nations had strengthened when Barack Obama was the president of America. Since then, US and Malaysia have had peaceful relations over the years, discussing on a wide range of issues, despite some disagreements over human rights and US foreign policy.
Malaysia sure is getting the attention of such great nations all over the world, and for once, it is actually about something good!
