Exams were the bane of our lives back when we were in school (or even if you’re studying now) and it’s something that we’ve all learned to dread as the date draws nearer. We’ve all probably wished that something crazy would happen so that we don’t have to take exams on a particular day and these two students took it upon themselves to make sure that’s what happened.

According to CBS New York, two freshman students from Secaucus High School, New Jersey were arrested after they hacked into the school’s Wi-Fi system because they didn’t want to take exams. The incident happened at the end of March and they were caught not long after that.

Apparently, the school is dependent on the Internet for its curriculum and disruptions to the connection meant that the students’ daily assignments were affected as well. It was reported that the two 14-year-olds actually took requests from other students to bring the Wi-Fi system down on specific days so regular assignments and tests that were supposed to take place through the online system could not happen.

The two boys had launched a DDoS (Denial-of-service) attack on the school’s routers to jam the system. They had allegedly used an app to do this but the police said that they may have gotten help from somebody else by paying them to launch an attack on the school’s Wi-Fi.

The students have since been charged with computer criminal activity and conspiracy to commit computer criminal activity but were eventually released to their parents. It is unclear how these two boys got caught but for the other students, exams are going on as usual as the school’s Wi-Fi quickly recovered from the hiccup. Perhaps the school should look into ways to prevent these type of things from happening again!

One student summed up the situation, saying, “I don’t think it’s right in any circumstance, but clearly, they have some future in computer science or IT development.” There is no word yet on what disciplinary action will be taken on the two boys.

What do you think of the boys’ actions? Let us know in the comments section!
