The UMNO Supreme Council has announced that it will be seeking an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to present a memorandum urging former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be pardoned.

Its Secretary-General, Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that the party’s Supreme Council had unanimously agreed on the matter. Besides that, the party would be presenting a memorandum signed by 191 UMNO divisions, as well as its Women, Puteri and Youth wings defending Najib, stressing his many contributions to the nation.

As reported by The Star, Asyraf revealed that many party grassroots leaders were saddened by the recent Federal Court’s dismissal of Najib’s application for a review of his conviction and sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case. The former Prime Minister is currently serving a 12-year jail term at Kajang prison.

UMNO’ Secretary-General asserted,

“It is a decision that is seen as unfair and this is in line with the remarks of the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebli, who chaired the five-member bench of the Federal Court and said Najib did not get a fair trial and he should be released and acquitted,”
