Throughout this pandemic, there are many from various walks of life who need our help. But, it’s hard to help them all when many of us are struggling with our own financial woes.
Hence, it is why an innovative idea like this one is a necessary step forward towards bettering our society with breaking the bank.
Kuan Chee Heng (or more affectionately known as Uncle Kentang) took to his Facebook page to showcase his new initiative. Instead of monetary donations, people can now purchase E-vouchers that’ll not only help hawkers who require the business to stay afloat and those who cannot afford to put meals on the table.
“Bringing digitisation to our hawkers and needy people. Measure and control. We will lessen the procedure of providing cash, instead we will create e-vouchers and load them into the phones of the needy. They will shop or eat at certain designated areas and hawkers, they will use the e-vouchers to pay,” he wrote.
This great initiative not only helps the underprivileged community by giving them access to necessities such as groceries and food but also assist struggling businesses by providing them a customer base of those who want to help.
“We will also track the items they buy and this will enable us to design what kind of food we plan to provide to them. It will enable hawkers who are diligent to be enrolled into this program so that it eases the sale of their food. Many hawkers are suffering and we will pick and choose hawkers who are willing to work with us.”
The tracking will also be utilised for future plans and operations.
“This will enable us to have data on their spending and it will enable us to track and plan our budget for the needy in years to come. We will also have the data of the needy and this data can be easily shared to other NGOs and government agencies such as Zakat and also the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to formulate a better design of aids that will go to each recipient,” he added.
He proceeded to thank Z-City, as they will be assisting with enabling contributors to purchase vouchers in the application to be donated to the public.
“This will ensure that there will be no embezzlement of funds as donors will know who received their donations,” he shared.
