For those who keep up with local social media, you will likely be no stranger to the name ‘Uncle Kentang’, or Uncle Kuan Chee Heng, who is best remembered for his incredible generosity and kindness towards the Malaysian community, regardless of race.
But by far and wide, Uncle Kentang has garnered most praise for his willingness to go out and help families to prepare for the funerals of their loved ones, and going as far as to even pay for them if they are unable to afford the funerary costs, which can often be a considerable burden for those living on the poverty line.

Travelling over 3 states to help the family in need
And just recently, Uncle Kentang has added yet another feather to his cap after going out of his way to drive his van jenazah (hearse), which he offers for use to poor families at no cost at all, from Puchong to Sungai Bakap Hospital in Penang, then to Pahang, to help an impoverished family arrange for the funeral of their loved one.
That means he travelled over 787km just for the explicit purpose of helping this underprivileged family!
Paying the costs out of his own pocket
Granted the blessings and permission by the deceased’s family to help arrange for the funeral, Uncle Kentang proceeds to collect the deceased’s body from Penang, before transporting it back to Pahang where the family lives to perform the funerary rites, before burial. Not only did Uncle Kentang travel the distance to help the family, he even paid for all the funerary arrangements out of his own pocket.
“When they were unable to pay for the funerary costs themselves, we stepped in. This is what makes Malaysia truly great.” he said.
As one can imagine, netizens across Malaysia have applauded Uncle Kentang for his compassion and generosity towards all Malaysians regardless of race.
To Uncle Kentang, we thank you for your continued service to our local community, and hope that you will continue to be blessed with health and happiness in doing what you do best.
