Jeli District Police Chief, Superintendent Kamarulzaman Harun, said earlier that members of a police patrol unit (MPV) spotted a Perodua Myvi with two individuals acting suspiciously in Kampung Sungai Rual. When the inspection was about to begin, the male in the driver’s seat refused to cooperate and sped away with his girlfriend in the passenger seat.

In the chase on Monday (1 December) in Jeli, Kelantan, the Perodua Myvi driver also rammed the police vehicle and drove recklessly before the car was successfully stopped in Kampung Rabbana.

The driver tried to flee on foot, and a struggle ensued with the police before he was arrested. Upon inspection, the police found that the male suspect is a university student in the state, and his girlfriend is an SPM candidate.

In an official statement by PDRM in Jeli, the police said that both suspects were believed to have been shocked by the police presence, and that further investigation also found they had no criminal records.

“The case is being investigated under Section 186 and Section 279 of the Penal Code, which are obstructing a public servant from performing his duties and dangerous driving, respectively,” Kamarulzaman said.

He also reminded the public to always cooperate with authorities during inspections and to comply with the law. He warned the students not to act recklessly, as it could damage their future and education.
