In the latest update following the brutal murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, it has been reported that all four police officers who were present during the killing have now been charged over his death.
This follows after ex-police officer Derek Chauvin was initially charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter for pressing his knee against George Floyd’s neck, resulting in his death.
As of writing, Derek Chauvin is now charged with second-degree murder. On the other hand, three of his colleagues, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng, who held George down, and Tou Thao, who stood watch over the entire incident, will be charged for abetting and aiding second-degree manslaughter, according to CNN.
Each of the men have since been arrested, with bail set at $1 million each (RM 4,262,500).
If convicted, second-degree murder and aiding in second-degree murder are crimes that are punishable by up to 20 years in prison, according to United States law.
George Floyd’s untimely death has since sparked a worldwide movement that has been going strong for seven days, with many cities across the world recording massive protests in solidarity with black lives lost to police violence and systemic oppression.
