A woman from Sibu who could not stand being called “auntie” was recently fined RM1,000 for refusing to wear a face mask despite being advised to do so multiple times by employees on the premise.

Video: Media sosial#MalayMail

In the video posted by Buletin INFO 1 Malaysia/GLOBAL, the woman can be heard arguing with one of the employees in a raised voice saying, “I want to buy a mask. I tell your manager. I don’t care. F*ck you, Iban!”

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the woman was shopping at a pharmacy at Jalan Kampung Nyabor, Sibu. She lashed out and caused a scene after she was told to wear a mask before entering the store. After she refused to put one on and saying that she was going to buy a mask in the store, the staff denied her entry. That’s when she started yelling.

“The woman was also angered when the staff addressed her as “auntie” which caused an argument to erupt between them”, explained Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Jonathan Ringgit, who made the decision to fine the woman after reviewing footage of the incident, as reported by the Borneo Post.

“She also claimed to suffer from insomnia. The suspect also easily raised her voice and laughed to herself when questioned,” added the District Police Chief.

The suspect was found to have committed an offence under Rule 10 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 2020 (No.8) and was given 14 days to settle the compound fee of RM1,000 for violating the SOPs of the RMCO.

Hopefully, she’s learned her lesson.
