The rise of technology has led to women having to become much more aware of their surroundings especially when it comes to the dangers of fitting rooms and public restrooms where it’s easy for perverts to hide spy cams.
Recently, a viral post on Twitter stated that there are alleged hidden cameras used to record consumers trying out clothes at a popular clothing store somewhere in Kuala Lumpur.
A Twitter user recently took to the platform to post a screenshot of what appeared to be a private page or group.
The screenshot featured aerial footage from inside the women’s fitting room taken from a hidden camera. It is alleged that the videos are being sold online, with sellers claiming to have recordings of couples and individuals in the fitting rooms.
Multiple victims
Since the revelation in the original tweet, which has since been deleted by the owner to protect the privacy of the individuals in question, several individuals have reached out to share their own experiences to the user.
One of the victims who came forward claimed that she was one of the women in the video screenshot. She revealed that the fitting room location is most likely at the H&M Avenue K outlet as she went shopping there last October.
“May I know all those videos are from where? Cause one of the persons in that video is me, and it caused me embarrassment when it was published publicly. I hope that you can help me. The fitting room is at H&M Avenue K if I am not mistaken, cause I bought a shirt from there. The videos might have been recorded on October 6 2022.”
The poster also said that the person had provided a receipt of the purchase and pictures of the same clothes as the video as proof.
Matter is being investigated
Following how viral the matter got, H&M Malaysia has since lodged a police report according to a statement.
“The safety of our customers is of the utmost importance to us. A police report has been made and investigations are currently ongoing.”
“We have conducted an inspection of all fitting rooms and are working to ensure that there are no security breaches that will compromise the privacy of our customers,” the company explained.
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that the police are also investigating the claims. Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said that they received a report on the matter on Monday (January 9).
He said the police report was lodged by the security manager of an outlet on Jalan Imbi.
“We sent our personnel there to investigate and could not find the camera. We believe it happened at another location.”
He said that the case has been classified under Section 509 of the Penal Code for intentionally insulting the modesty of any woman by word, through sound, gesture or object.
We hope that the authorities get to the bottom of the matter as soon as possible.
