Now that the Covid-19 Movement Control Order (MCO) has been eased, people are rushing out to their favourite makan places to get their hands on meals they’ve no had in a while and have been craving.
For people staying in Bangsar, that would be the Nasi Briyani Ayam Madu from famous Bangsar mamak, Mahbub.
Many apparently crowded the restaurant in order to get a meal, which caused police officers to be called in to ensure that customers maintained the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) ethics, which includes social distancing, as showcased by Twitter profile, Pedoqpop.
Netizens took to Pedoqpop’s thread to express their frustration at the fact that the customers showcased no regard for social distancing and crowded the food counter in throngs.
This comment goes, “What to do, Malaysians are concrete heads, stubborn.”
This comment says, “Too bad. Don’t tell me police officers have to guard every restaurant or mamak. It’s like prefects guarding school children queuing up to buy food at the school canteen.”
The first picture showcased a large group of people standing literally in touching distance of each other as they waited for their food.
The second picture, on the other hand, shows police officers standing around outside the restaurant, probably after dispersing the crowd.
As for the customers, the government has urged us to be more disciplined when it comes to running errands and buying food.
The Malaysian National Security Council wrote, “Citizens need to practice self discipline of the highest form. Obey the MCO instructions, take care of your own safety and your families.”
This means that we should not put ourselves in a situation that could cause us to not only get infected but also infect others.
What do you think? Should the restaurant be fined for allowing their customers to crowd the premises?
