About 2 weeks ago, a policewoman went viral after a video showing a confrontation between her and 2 other police officers, who ranked lower than her circulated on social media.

This morning (26 June), the policewoman, Inspector Sheila attended the Magistrate Court in Selayang for her bailing process but chaos almost erupted when a police officer wanted to cuff her.

“Who gave your orders to cuff me? I’m not a civilian, I’m a police officer and I’m not running away because I’m still on duty.”

Inspector Sheila resisted being handcuffed by a police officer in the court and justified her refusal to be cuffed when she spoke to the media outside the court, where she claimed that the police officer tried to cuff her twice.

“Don’t teach me anything about the procedures. I’ve been in the force for 7 years and I know them well. I’m a policewoman, not a civilian.”

“Are they trying to sabotage me?”

Inspector Sheila went on to question the decision to cuff her and said that it shouldn’t have happened because she’s a police officer. She also told the media that she was treated harshly to the extent that she had a mark on the wrist, reported Malaysia Gazette.

“I’ve arrested many people under section 186, and never once have I arrested them with handcuffs.”

She also rhetorically questioned the decision to cuff her as a form of sabotage and an attempt to ruin her dignity.

“I’ve dressed appropriately, I’ve attended the court and cooperated, but why are you still insisting to cuff me?”

Inspector Sheila pleaded NOT guilty to the court today for 2 charges,

  • Threatening with intimidation to intimidate a 69-year-old at a restaurant in Gombak
  • Insulting the modesty of a 41-year-old man, saying that he’s ugly, fat, and a rhinoceros

According to a report by New Straits Times, both incidents happened on the same day with a 1-hour gap. The 1st charge was investigated under section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries up to 2 years of jail and a fine.

The 2nd charge was investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail time of up to 5 years. She was released on bail and the matter has been set for a mention on 7 August.
