We get it. Prices of goods are increasing and it’s only natural for business operators to increase the prices of their items but not if the bill “drains your wallet.”

A Malaysian customer in Langkawi, Kedah recently shared her frustration about having to pay RM20 for a small plate of ayam goreng kunyit (fried turmeric chicken), and judging from the image, the portion is only enough to feed 1 person.

She was also charged RM3 for a plate of white rice, and RM1 for a glass of water, making the total bill RM24.

The eatery is located in Pantai Chenang, Langkawi, and the customer wanted to share her frustration in the hope of spreading awareness to the public.

“No wonder everyone is saying that prices in Langkawi are high. Do you think the price is worth it for a small plate of the dish?” the customer questioned.

In her post, she also asked the public not to criticise her decision to make the matter viral on social media because she was merely sharing her dissatisfaction about the ridiculous pricing.

The power of social media is undeniably effective, and the matter has gained the attention of the Ministry of Domestic Trade & Cost of Living in Kedah, which has since visited the premise and issued a Notice of Confirmation of Goods (NPMB) to the restaurant operator.

In other words, the operator will have some explanations to do, and he/she has been given 2 business days to do so, effective yesterday (January 15), according to an official statement by the organisation.

“We have done some investigation at the premise and we can confirmed that prices are all displayed. The operator will need to show the value and the cost of the food.”

As consumers, what do you think of RM20 for a small plate of ayam goreng kunyit?
