Over the weekend, Penang experienced an 18-hour thunderstorm that caused flash floods in almost all parts of the island, displacing over 3,000 people. Sadly, the death toll rose to 7 today, according to Free Malaysia Today.
Needless to say, Penangites are going through an incredibly tough time, including this family who recently caught the attention of local netizens.
Due to the overwhelming floods that blocked most roads on the island, this family had no choice but to use a boat to transport their relative’s remains to a crematorium, according to the Malay Mail.

The family members of 89-year-old Lim Ah Gao, who passed away from natural causes, were forced to use the boat to transport his coffin due to the high water levels, which made it impossible to use a hearse.
A video showing the coffin being transported on the boat, followed by relatives carrying offerings, began to circulate widely on WhatsApp.

The coffin arrived safely at the Berapit Chinese Cemetery, where family members were able to carry out the funeral rites without any difficulty.
We cannot imagine what a tough time this must be for the family, especially during one of the worst floods the island has ever seen! Our condolences go out to them and hope they stay strong during this unbelievably hard time.
