By now, you might have received several messages claiming to be lists of different places where coronavirus cases were diagnosed. With so many new cases in the past few days, Malaysians are getting worried that they might have inadvertently come into contact with any infected patients or gone to places these people had visited while they were contagious.
A WhatsApp message showing a screenshot of what looks like an email has been circulating online and people have been sharing it without bothering to do some fact-checking. You might have seen the message, it lists down the local areas which had previously reported incidents of Covid-19 in Malaysia.
It looks pretty legit and even looks like it has been sent as a company-wide memo. The places listed in the message are:
- Hotel Ancasa, KL
- Pantai Hospital, KL
- KL Sentral
- Plaza Sentral, 2B, KL
- Mercu UEM – Khazanah Nasional Berhad
- Malakoff Building, KL Sentral
- UDA Holdings, Blok Menara, Pertama Kompleks, KL
- Wisma Felcra, KL
- Menara 1 Dutamas, Solaris Dutamas
However, don’t panic yet because according to China Press, this is actually fake news. While there have been rumours about this before, this doesn’t mean that it’s real. Some of these places have indeed been linked to Covid-19 cases but many others have been unnecessarily associated.
The Health Ministry said those places associated with Covid-19 have already carried out the necessary disinfection works and it is safe to go there. The Health Ministry has warned the public against spreading fake or unverified news on Covid-19. These culprits may face legal action if they do so.
If you’re not sure, don’t share!
