The world has been at war with electronic cigarettes and vapes following an upswing in vaping-related illnesses and deaths worldwide.
Now, there is more cause for concern, especially for those who are adamant that vaping is the way to go (and are expecting children in the near future).
Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialist Prof. Dr Imelda Balchin took to Facebook to address issues related to vaping among the Malaysian public.
In her Facebook status, she writes, “Vaping can lead to male infertility. Here is what Dato’ Dr M Hatta Tarmizi, an expert on fertility and ObGyn Consultant has to say.”
Explaining more about the impact of vaping on fertility, Dr M Hatta writes,
“Researchers in the University College of London (UCL) studied the issue of vaping and fertility. They found that the mixture of water, food-grade flavouring, choice of nicotine levels and propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin can affect sperm.”
Even more alarming, your favourite flavours and scents could cause a variety of different adverse effects.
“Vape juices greatly diminishes fertility: Bubblegum kills of cells in the testicles. Cinnamon negatively impacts sperm motility (movement).”
He adds that studies were done by the Baptist University of Hong Kong, which identified negative impacts of vaping, have led to the total ban on all e-cigarettes.
So now not only are vapers at risk of respiratory-related illnesses but are also at risk of becoming infertile. The next time you think about puffing away on your vape, think about how much it can impact you and your body.
Is losing ‘rocket power’ that worth it?
