If you have diarrhoea, what’s the first thing you ask yourself? WHAT DID I EAT!!
However, have you ever thought of other factors, say your dishwashing sponge? Yes, Public Health Malaysia explained in a post that your dishwashing sponge is the carrier for multiple bacterias like Acinetobacter, Moraxella, Chryseobacterium and even fungus!
You might think that the soap might’ve killed the bacteria however that’s NOT the case. Research has shown that germs still exist even when they are soaked in dish soap and can be even dirtier than the condition in your toilet.
You’re recommended to change your dishwashing sponge every three weeks.
Here are some cleaning methods for your sponge:
- Boil it for five minutes
- Microwave the sponge for two minutes in a bowl filled with water and bleach
- Get a new sponge every three weeks or simply replace it once it starts to smell
Living in a pandemic, we’ve all learned to be more aware of our personal hygiene and our surroundings. If you’re someone who suffers from diarrhoea regularly, maybe it’s time to YEET the sponge?
