Robbers love to target jewellers simply because they have so many valuables on display and these criminals usually use brute force to grab all the jewellery they can get their hands on before making their escape. Of course, jewellery shop owners have plenty of security measures in place to deter robbers in order to minimise their losses.
While not every robber is caught and brought to justice, recently, netizens were amused to see one would-be robber getting exactly what he deserved when he tried to run off with a gold necklace. In a video which went viral on social media, it showed a man who walked nonchalantly into a jewellery shop pretending to be a customer.
In the footage which is believed to be from a CCTV in the shop, the customer asks the shopkeeper to take out one of the gold necklaces there as he wanted to try it on. The friendly shopkeeper then takes out the necklace and the man proceeds to put it around his neck to see how it looks like on him.
While doing so, he keeps on adjusting the necklace and the collar of his shirt as if he wanted to ensure that it looked good on him. The man also keeps talking to the shopkeeper, presumably to ask his opinion about the necklace. After fiddling with the gold necklace, he suddenly makes a break for it and runs to the door of the shop while the necklace is still on his neck.
Unfortunately for him, the door of the shop was locked and the shopkeeper watched his antics calmly as he tried to open the door. After a few seconds, the customer gave up and walked back to the counter as the amused shopkeeper asks him back for the necklace. At first, he seems reluctant to return it but since there was no other way out, he had no choice but to hand it back to the shopkeeper. Malunya!
While the video does not state where or when the incident took place, based on the store and its surroundings, netizens speculated that it may have happened in Thailand. The shopkeeper must have lodged a police report after that as the video also shows the would-be robber in handcuffs being led into the police station.
Netizens were equally amused by the robber’s failed heist and praised the shopkeeper for installing security doors. Some also said that the guy wanted to steal a gold necklace but in exchange, he got a pair of silver bangles (handcuffs) instead. LOL.
