Last month, it was announced that RapidKL’s train services will be lessening the frequencies of their trains due to upgrading works. What used to be a 3-minute wait for a train has now become a 5 to 7 minute wait, according to RapidKL’s train schedule.

If you’re a frequent LRT passenger, you’ll know that the frequency for each train is set at a minimum of 7 minutes most of the time. Mind you, a 4-minute wait can make a whole lot of difference!

Recently, the Twitter page Transit Malaysia shared a couple of images which showed the hectic crowds inside the train. The first image was taken inside the train at Asia Jaya station, whilst the other image was taken at Kelana Jaya station. The train was bound for Putra Heights.

Same situations, different places

The images has captured the attention of many Malaysians, especially those who frequently take the train to work.

They flooded the comments section with similar situations that they have to face at different stations, especially during peak hours.

At times, passengers have to board the 2-coach train, as opposed to the regular 4-coach train. One user commented and said that 2-coach trains are not relevant anymore, given how the number of passengers is on the rise.

‘We need 2 to 3 minutes of frequency, or is that actually impossible? Maybe a 5-coach train?’

Another user also expressed their annoyance towards the 7-minutes frequency as they are only able to board the train after 3 to 4 intervals due to the crowds.

And the comments section was continuously bombarded with similar experiences of different passengers during peak hours.

As the passengers ourselves, we truly missed the good old times when we needed to wait for only 3 minutes during peak hours. Hectic traffic on the road, and now the decreased train frequencies, what’s next?
