“There is no need to label each other as Type M, C, I. We’re all Malaysians.”
Senator Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman, UMNO Chief of Tebrau and the Secretary of the Johor UMNO Liaison Body, recently said that giving each other labels brings zero benefits and is considered belittling others. He explained that the strength of this country lies in its diversity, unity among its people, and harmony, which should be respected.
For the racial tensions that happen, Abdul calls for actions to be taken to tackle the issues.
“For racial issues that arise, the Ministry of Unity should act swiftly to address them and not wait until they become serious.”
“A new law should be made to handle these issues. We don’t want another May 13, 1969 to happen.”
During an Iftar event at a mosque in Johor, Abdul told the media that all parties should avoid any statements that could provoke racial or religious tensions, adding that as Malaysians, we should defend Malaysia’s diversity, which is also essential from all aspects, including economic stability.
“We should think about a better future for all Malaysians, especially for the generations to come.”

The labelling of ‘Type C, M, I’ came after a viral incident involving Darsa Fried Chicken last year, in which the admin of the restaurant’s social media pages was called out for addressing the Chinese community as Type C.
The government was recently urged to enact new laws to tackle 3R-related offenses as the country is still relying on old laws which lack specific provisions that directly address 3R-related offenses.
It’s high time the labelling comes to an end.
