A couple of social media posts recently went viral after claiming the cakes sold at one popular bakery in Malaysia contained alcohol.
In a Threads post by @hazirahanapi, she shared a screenshot of a comment that claimed one of the employees told a customer that the cakes contained wine. The customer was there to get a birthday cake, and she was informed by the employee who attended to her.
A Facebook post by Amin Shukor also went viral for the same matter and has caused concerns among Muslim consumers who frequent the bakery. As a precaution, social media users have since demanded an explanation from the bakery regarding its halal status and the ingredients used in the baking.
Just last night (May 27), Lavender Bakery Malaysia broke the silence via an official statement and assured all consumers that NO ALCOHOL is used in baking.
However, Lavender Bakery Malaysia also clarified that they are not halal-certified by JAKIM.
“We would like to assure everyone that the ingredients we used, such as butter, oil, cheese, and sausage, are sourced from Halal-certified suppliers.”
“Any comments that claimed our products contained alcohol are untrue. We do not use any alcohol in the baking.”
Lavender Bakery Malaysia also said that they are operating under the “No pork, no lard, no alcohol” policy.
“We hold the HACCP certification, which reflects our ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.”
The bakery added that they will take into consideration the public’s suggestions to apply for halal certification from JAKIM.
