With the general election approaching fast, more and more fake news are circulating on social media to confuse fellow Malaysian netizens. The latest one actually said that women with nail polish will lose their right to vote on polling day because the indelible ink won’t be able to stick to their finger. Really meh?

As such, many ladies sporting the popular gel manicure have been spotted flocking to nail salons to have them removed, so that they don’t get disqualified as voters. To authenticate the rumour, reporters from Kwong Wah contacted the EC and was told that the rumour is nothing but a lie.
The spokesperson from EC confirmed with the reporters that having nail polish on your finger nails will not affect your right as a voter. In fact, the EC has never implemented such a rule.
He continued explaining that the indelible ink is used to prevent a person from voting twice and that the ink will not come off easily. We’re not so sure about that to be honest.
Also, the indelible ink will cover the whole tip segment, thus staining our finger nail and part of our skin. Therefore, even if the ink fails to stain the nail, our skin will still have sufficient black ink to prove that we’ve voted.

Of course, to be on the safe side, you can still remove your nail polish prior to voting on 9 May. After all, the one on your index finger will be ruined anyway. So, spread the word and let your friends know about this!
