WkndFest K-pop Organisers, Khairul Anwar and Shahrin Kamaruzaman, cleared the air after being slammed by fans with scam accusations following sudden revisions in the schedule of the festival. The event, which was supposed to take place on 1st September at Bukit Jalil Stadium, will now take place on 30th August at the Axiata Arena.

Khairul says that the change is due to rules implemented by local authorities that can only approve the event if it isn’t held on the same day as an important local holiday and was staged indoors.

According to Malay Mail, the scam allegations began when Khairul tweeted unconfirmed details about the festival on his personal account despite him insisting that official news concerning the event would come from the Wkndfest account.

“There was a bit of confusion there and I think that’s where the speculation of this being a scam started.”

Nonetheless, the organisers have assured fans that refunds and ticket exchanges will be carried out by MyTicket Asia by this Friday. Khairul has since released an apology statement:

“As the organisers, we’re truly sorry to the fans for changing the date at the last minute… We now realise that we need to improve our communication with customers and be more clear about things from here on.”

Amongst the anticipated acts that will be performing at Wkndfest Vol 1: K-pop Edition include popular boybands, iKON and VAV, solo artist Tiffany Young, and girl groups Mamamoo, (G)I-dle, and Momoland.

Aside from the scam drama, Twitter netizens have also complained about the expensive ticket prices ranging from RM338 to RM788. However, Khairul insists that fans will get their money’s worth as the festival features six solo concerts with each performer being allocated 45 minutes-1 hour for their respective slots.

“I want them to understand that we’re creating a place where K-pop music lovers can see not only their favourite idols perform but discover other groups as well and have a great night out.”

Khairul and partnering Wkndfest co-founders, Amirul Hafiz and Shahrin Kamaruzaman, have already started planning for the year ahead, with future genre-specific editions of the festival coming in 2020.

“Our 2020 vision is to do a mega version of Wkndfest which will be held over three days, with each day dedicated to a specific genre ranging from K-pop, hip-hop, and pop.”

More information about the event and ticket purchasing are available on their website.
