It’s not every day that you get to treat yourself to a luxurious meal accompanied by the cinematic view of KL’s skyline in the background. Yet, we can’t think of a fancier way to celebrate Merdeka month this year than by indulging in the ultimate dining experience, 14 Flavours by Nobu Omakase!
For the whole month of August, Nobu Kuala Lumpur is having an exclusive promotion to commemorate our country’s independence day. Spread over eight courses, 14 Flavours by Nobu Omakase is a 14-dish menu that pays homage to the 14 stripes on our Jalur Gemilang. It offers a twist on familiar Malaysian delicacies from different parts of the country while incorporating the restaurant’s signature Japanese-Peruvian cuisine for an exciting journey of flavours that will leave your stomachs satiated and satisfied.
Take it from us, we actually had the opportunity of trying it out!
To get the ball rolling, an enticing platter of three sashimi cuts. Starting with a beautifully prepared Hawaiian yellowtail known as Kampachi, topped with Karashi-Su miso caviar. Then follows a juicy cut of shrimp accompanied by sea urchin roe, Botan Ebi with uni. And to complete our first course, the Tuna Tataki with jalapeno dressing, diced pineapples and crispy shitake.
We were advised to taste the dishes from left to right as each element of the course created a different depth of flavour that left our tastebuds tingling.
Next up was a course that most of you are familiar with-sushi! But this is no ordinary selection of sushi. A personally handpicked assortment by Nobu’s Head Sushi Chef, Chico, left us indulging in sushi ranging from succulent fatty tuna to flame-seared salmon.
Following this treat was a rojak-inspired Dragon Fruit Dry Miso Salad that provided a fresh momentary departure from our fine seafood cuts before landing in the centre of the explosive flavour offered by its accompaniment, seared scallops topped with wasabi salsa.
To ensure our tastebuds weren’t overwhelmed by all these tantalising flavours, a midway refresher, the Tomato Sorbet, was served as a palate cleanser to ready us for the second leg of this food adventure.
Next was a Nobu-style chilli crab. While some of you might be familiar with the pounding and cracking required to retrieve the succulent meat from your everyday Chinese restaurant chilli crab, Nobu’s take on the highly-favoured seafood specimen does all the hard work for you. Stunningly arrayed on a bed of spicy-sour egg sauce, the soft and juicy crab meat left us salivating for more.
Thankfully, the star of the show made its way to the table shortly after. The Short Rib topped with Cacao Truffle Miso was a unanimous favourite. Covered in a decadent Melakan chocolate sauce, the tender meat melted in our mouths effortlessly. The dish is said to be inspired by a local favourite, barbecued pork-better known to Malaysians as char siu.
In the spirit of bringing back the nostalgic flavours of Malaysia’s delectable dishes, we were served Unagi Chimaki as our final savoury course. For those of you who are familiar with sticky rice dumplings, also known as zongzi, you’d recognise the nostalgic fragrance of this traditionally-inspired delicacy right as you unwrap the bamboo leaf. Instead of the usual red bean or meat filling, you’ll find a beautifully glazed eel that surprisingly complements the sticky rice effortlessly.
Finally, to end the night, we were served a cooling shaved ice dessert-the Ryugan longan Kakigori that is said to be inspired by Sweet Lotus Seed Soup. The light and icy treat made from monk fruit sorbet, persimmon and green kelp was the perfect end to this stellar 14-dish adventure.
Don’t miss out on this exclusive Merdeka deal! You can treat yourself and a loved one to a journey of flavours at Nobu Kuala Lumpur from now till 31st August for just RM398+ per person.
