The Malaysian police doesn’t exactly have the best reputation went to comes to bribery.

But, without proper proof, how can we determine whether an officer has asked for or accepted a bribe?

China Press recently took to their YouTube page to showcase a video made by a woman from China, who is claiming that a Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officer had asked for and taken a bribe from her as she did not have her passport on her while she was in a taxi heading back to her hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

They wrote, ” A Chinese woman travelling abroad in Malaysia claimed that she was stopped by the police and extorted out of RM200 when taking a taxi with a Malaysian friend, which made her ‘surprised’ by the image of the Malaysian police force!”

In the video showcased, the heavily armed PDRM officer could be seen asking her for her Identity Card (IC), but when she replied in confusion, he asked her where she was from.

She continued to share that she had explained to the officer that she was from China, and that when he asked for her passport, she said she had left it at the hotel out of fear of losing it. The officer also noticed that she was recording him and asked her to turn her camera off, using his hand to block the camera’s view. She then had to stop recording.

She offered to show him her driver’s license and other documents, but the officer insisted on seeing her passport as he needed to see the immigration stamp issued by the authorities.

At that point, she tried to call the Chinese Embassy through multiple numbers but nobody picked up.

After the officers spoke to her Malaysian friend and the taxi driver, the taxi driver explained that the officer allegedly wanted money but the Chinese woman did not have any on her.

The taxi driver then offered to lend RM100 to the woman to give to the officer but the officer apparently wanted more, prompting the taxi driver to take out RM200 instead.

However, the officer allegedly asked for another RM100, which brought the total to RM300, which they did not have. Hence, the officer apparently took the RM200 and left them.

The Chinese woman then explained that her Malaysian friend had told her that, normally, when someone did not have money to bribe police officers, the officers would then apparently take them to an ATM to withdraw money.

She even questioned if these are really police officers while wondering what she would have done if she was alone when the incident took place.

Watch a video of the incident below:
