We know you gambled during CNY but we bet you didn’t put this much on the table!

According to NST, a 58-year old petrol station manager was arrested yesterday (13 Feb) for lodging a fake police report claiming that she was robbed by an unknown man at the parking lot of the petrol station at Sungai Rambai where she had lost RM30,000 of her company’s money that was kept in an envelope.

In reality, she did lose the money but her story was false because she actually lost the money from gambling it all away during the recent Chinese New Year celebrations. GG.

Seberang Prai Selatan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid stated that upon further investigation, police had found discrepancies in her statements, saying,

We examined the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage of the scene and found no such incident (robbery) happened.”

“We subsequently detained the suspect this afternoon. Upon questioning, we established that she had lodged a false report.”

“She claimed she was robbed when she actually spent about RM16,100 of the company’s money on gambling and preparations for Chinese New Year.”

“To make her story believable, she also threw her personal belongings, including her cell phone and personal documents, into a dustbin along Jalan Padang Lalang to make it look like it had been snatched from her,” he explained.

Moreover, Nik Ros Azhan also said that the police had seized another huge sum amounting to RM18,900 that was kept by the woman at the petrol station.

As of now, the case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code.

The petrol station manager will be remanded at the Bukit Mertajam court today (14 February) where she will be spending the night at the district police headquarters’ lock up.

That’s a huge sum of money to lose but she shouldn’t have lied!
