It’s officially wedding season, which means many engaged couples are frantically preparing for their big day, making sure every little detail is perfect. Like anything in life, sometimes, there can be a few hiccups in the wedding planning process.
However, if the hiccup revolves around something crucial like a wedding dress, then stress levels are understandably off the charts. Take this poor bride for example!
Earlier this week on Tuesday (20th February), a bride-to-be named Mhayo Arguelles from the Philippines shared a post on Facebook that has since gone viral. In her post, Mhayo detailed her experience of getting her wedding dress designed for her big day.

She explained that she entrusted her designer friend to design her gown, and had paid her PHP30,000 (approx. RM2,260), feeling confident that she would get exactly what they had discussed.
However, she was shocked to find that the end result was nothing close to the dress of her dreams, because it ended up looking nothing like the sketch. What was even worse was that she received the completed gown a mere day before her Valentine’s Day wedding!
According to Inquirer, the dress was delivered to her in a reusable Mickey Mouse bag instead of a box. She was angry to find that the dress was made from cheap, low-quality fabric. An excerpt from her post reads,
“I felt depressed after seeing my gown, I said, ‘What? This is my wedding gown?’ I thought twice and wondered how it could have turned this way. It’s ugly!”

“The lace on the arm-part of the gown is loose. It didn’t fit my arm the right way… I was charged extra for my veil, which looked like it was just cut off from a mosquito net. Crazy!”

Thankfully though, Mhayo’s maid of honour was able to borrow a much better-looking dress from someone else so she could wear it for her big day.
“I was only able to use the train, because I had no other choice. I just did what I had to do to look as best I can with the gown I borrowed. The veil was also by my designer friend. There was no other veil I could use.”

On top of that, the bride’s friend was also meant to design suits for the groomsmen, but they were also delivered late.
“The groomsmen’s outfits were delivered Feb 12 at around 11pm. That’s wrong as well, because normally, there should be at least one week of final fitting before the wedding. I am wondering why you waited until the last minute before you delivered our clothes, while I gave you a long period to prepare,” she continued.
“But I was still considerate of my friend. I still gave him work when I asked him to do the makeup of my bridesmaids. They were also not pleased with their makeup. Their PHP500 (approx. RM37) each was not worth it.”

Understandably disappointed with the poor quality of her wedding dress, Mhayo refused to pay the remaining PHP8,000 (approx. RM600). However, her friend filed a complaint against her because she refused to pay. Meanwhile, the bride has also filed a case against her designer friend, and they will reportedly settle this disagreement on 27th February.
Well, let’s hope this entire fiasco gets settled amicably. To anyone looking to hire a good friend to design their wedding dress, make sure they’re capable of delivering what they promise. Don’t blindly trust anyone, especially when it involves your big day!
