As the days progress, the number of patients infected by Covid-19 seems to be on the rise with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. People are constantly advised to take the necessary precautions and keep themselves safe. Unfortunately, sometimes, no amount of self precaution can completely shield us from the elusive microbes. This is because human negligence is one of the main contributing causes to the spread of this virus. Human negligence has landed humanity into trouble more times than we can count.
Lately, reports surfaced that a women’s prison in China had released a former prisoner that was infected with the Covid-19 coronavirus into the public. Huang, the newly freed individual, had then continued her journey to explore Beijing.
According to Berita Harian, the Government of China had sent in a team of government officials to look further into this report. The local media in China reported that the infected woman was freed from prison as her sentence came to an end. Fresh out of prison, Huang’s family had sent her to explore Beijing.
Netizens were upset at the massive oversight by the prison officials as Hubei Town has been under lockdown for over a month. Furthermore, Huang was also among the 300 women prisoners who were infected with the virus.
The Hubei Prison Officer did not quarantine Huang because he stated that she was released according to the law. To make matters worse, Huang was released after she was officially diagnosed by Beijing’s Disease Control and Prevention Centre with the SARS-Cov-2 virus.
The Deputy Minister of Judiciary, Xiong Xuanguo stated that the fault was within local law enforcement authorities. According to him, this oversight happened because a gap had formed between the efforts of controlling and prevention of the disease. The district of Hubei’s credibility was further questioned when it was uncovered that they did not record 200 cases of infected prisoners in their daily patients count.
Upon receiving widespread attention, Ying Yong, the Hubei District’s Communist Party Leader, had instructed officers to increase control measures in prisons, rehabilitation centres and other public spaces. Huang is now in quarantine alongside three of her family members.
