Everyone knows the stress that comes with monthly payments, especially when rent is involved. Sometimes, landlords can be a little forgiving and give you extra time if you can’t make your rent just yet. However, this landlord from Subang is definitely not the forgiving type!
According to the Malay Mail Online, a 26-year-old woman was reportedly locked in her own apartment at around 7.30pm on Saturday (24th February) for about 16 hours. She believes that her landlord and his real estate agent padlocked the grille door to her apartment that evening.

Thankfully, the young woman managed to get out of her apartment at 11.30pm last night (25th February) after she contacted her family. A police report has since been filed against the 44-year-old landlord and 29-year-old agent, and they are now in police custody.
Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Azlin Sadari told the daily,
“The victim was forcefully confined to her own home after she failed to pay the monthly rent of RM1,100 to one of the suspects. She was unhurt during the ordeal.”
The incident is currently being investigated under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement. If found guilty, the two could face up to a year in jail and/or a fine of up to RM2,000.

Well, we understand that it’s frustrating for landlords to not get their rent payment on time, but it’s certainly no excuse to treat their tenants this way! Let’s hope the authorities thoroughly investigate this situation and provide appropriate punishment if they’re proven guilty.
