The barricade set up to block people from going in and out of the Hubei province has not been kind to citizens contained in the area.
Not only are they stuck with increased security, long lines purchasing goods and the lack of convenience to do anything in the widespread of the Wuhan virus, those who depend on visitations to other districts have also suffered – like the case of Lu Yuejin.
Highlighted in Reuters, 50-year-old Lu Yuejin was found at the police checkpoint at a bridge over the Yangtze river and out of Hubei province, pleading officials to let her daughter pass and seek cancer treatment in Jiujian, Jiangxi province.
Her daughter, 26-year-old Hu Ping, has been unable to receive second-round chemotherapy for her leukemia, ever since the outbreak overwhelmed the hospitals in Wuhan.
With her daughter on the ground wrapped in a blanket, Lu said, “My daughter needs to go to the hospital in Jiujiang. She needs to have her treatment.”
“Please, take my daughter. I don’t need to go past. Just let my daughter go past.”
The message from the authorities was clear at the time – that residents would not be allowed into Jiujian, a city in the Jianxi province south of the Yangtze.
After pleading her case to the authorities, permission was then finally granted to both mother and daughter via an ambulance.
Lu said, “All I want to do is save her life.”
Understanding that all the officials could do was a part of their duty, it is instances like this that give a glimmer of hope especially to those who need it the most.
