How many of you are willing to leave your comfort zone and sail into the ocean of uncertainty? Well, this woman has certainly done it in pursuit of her dream!
For the past ten years, Yong Yean Hui has been working in the banking industry and earning herself a good salary. However, she got tired of the office routine and decided to become a hawker specialising in selling chee cheong fun.

According to Sinchew as reported by a Singaporean daily, Yong left her white-collar job in the middle of 2017 and took a long vacation to 18 countries in order to experience different cultures.
Yong revealed that ever since she came to Singapore eight years ago, she has been craving chee cheong fun with curry sauce, and it has always been her dream to open up a stall that sells this dish. So in April 2018, Yong opened up the stall at Maxwell Food Centre in Singapore that sells chee cheong fun with various types of delicious sauces.

“There are over 100 food centres in Singapore and I’ve been to a third of them to do market research. I noticed that most hawker centres don’t have a stall that specialises in chee cheong fun and when they do, the stall only provides one sauce (to go with the dish).”
“So when I opened up my stall, I’ve already figured out how many types of sauces and flavours that I’d be selling. All the new flavours were inspired from the journeys I’ve made.”
“I’ve incorporated influences from Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other countries into the dish and sauce,” she said.

At her stall, consumers can choose from five different sauces which include black sauce, red sauce, sesame sauce, and her favourite curry sauce. She was lucky to have found a supplier that produces the chee cheong fun for her using her secret recipe. The price starts at $2.50 (approx. RM7.50).
Food columnist KF Seetoh described the chee cheong fun‘s texture as “dense and soft, with a fragile firmness and gumminess to it”. Other versions that stood out were the laksa version of chee cheong fun where the dish is topped with eggs, fishball, bean skin rolls, and ngoh hiang (five spiced meat). Yummy!
