It can be agreed upon that animals are creatures that should be protected and nurtured, given how many of their species have been driven to the brink of extinction by the acts of mankind. Which is all the more reason why some of the rarest species have been put under conservation, in a bid to keep the animals alive and from fading away into the annals of history.
Unfortunately, those efforts have been dealt with a significant blow after it has been reported by the BBC that poachers have killed one of the rarest animals to be found on Earth.
The malicious act was committed allegedly in a village in north-eastern Kenya’s Garissa County, where the skeletal carcasses of a female white giraffe and her baby were recovered. White giraffes are an extremely rare occurrence in nature, and they owe their appearances to a condition called leucism, which causes skin cells to have no pigmentation.
The killing of two of these majestic creatures means that there is only one white giraffe left in the whole world, according to conservationists.
The white giraffes were first spotted in 2017, where photos of them went viral over the Internet. Steps are currently being taken to investigate as well as identify the poachers behind this malicious act.
As more and more animals are being driven out of their natural habitats for the sake of mankind’s development, it is always worth bearing in mind how our acts may lead to their extinction. We hope that the authorities will be able to find the culprits of these heinous acts soon.
