The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is set to bestow retired Malaysian politician Lim Kit Siang with the honorific title of ‘Tan Sri’ tomorrow in conjunction with His Majesty’s 64th birthday celebration.
The matter has been reported by several local news outlets today, quoting from reliable sources from the Democratic Action Party (DAP).
Furthermore, DAP Central Executive Committee Jeff Ooi also pretty much confirmed the matter through his Facebook page, sharing a photo of the 82-year-old Lim with an Istana Negara officer during a rehearsal of tomorrow’s official ceremony.
In the caption, Ooi called Lim a veteran of the Lim Clan and asserted that the retired politician will be known as Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang after tomorrow’s ceremony.
The longest-serving Opposition Leader (28 years) in Malaysian history, Lim will become the first DAP leader to be conferred with the Tan Sri title.
An ever-present in Malaysian politics, Lim announced his retirement from active politics last year and didn’t contest in the 15th General Election (GE15). He is also the father of former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and current Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying.

The fact that Lim is retired also played a part in the conferring of the Tan Sri title as it has been a policy by DAP for its members to not accept any honorific titles if they hold any positions.
