T-shirts are simply awesome pieces of clothing that are convenient to wear and look good on almost anyone. However, it’s pretty inevitable that if you wear and wash your favourite T-shirt too much, the neckline will get stretched, especially if it’s made of cotton.
Before you turn your favourite T-shirt into one of your at-home clothes or even a rag, try this hack that might just be able to breathe new life into the shirt. Based on TEEPR, this hack was introduced by a Japanese laundry expert when he made an appearance on a Japanese reality show demonstrating how to save a T-shirt’s neckline, and had viewers shocked because it actually worked.
The expert said that the main reason why a cotton T-shirt’s neckline gets stretched is due to how it gets dried. He explained that when you hang a T-shirt on a hanger to dry, the moisture weighs it down, which stretches the neckline. Now, to restore the T-shirt back to its former glory, there are only a few simple steps that you have to follow.
First, you need to prepare a bowl of ice cubes and cold water then fold the neckline of your T-shirt in a wave pattern. Soak that section in the bowl of ice cubes, which is supposed to make the fibres of the cotton firmer. Squeeze out excess moisture but make sure that the neckline is still in the “waves” pattern.
Next, flatten the neckline on a flat surface and prepare an iron in the meantime. Iron out the neckline in a vertical, upwards motion to flatten it further but do note not to iron it until it’s completely dry. Finally, lay the T-shirt out to dry on a flat surface so that the moisture doesn’t stretch out the neckline again.
After your T-shirt has completely dried, it should be like brand new once again. The expert also advised that if you want your T-shirt to last longer, you should not hang it to dry on a single hanger, but use two clothes hanger as shown below. Remember, moisture weighs down the cotton material!
Wow, looks like we can finally save our T-shirts! Would you try out this hack?
